VetNexusMD provides Independent Medical Opinions (IMOs) to veterans residing in 44 U.S. states. The exact service available to you depends on your current state of residence, which is verified at intake.
Veterans with verified current residence in Massachusetts or Florida are eligible for the full Independent Medical Opinion package, including a clinical interview via secure electronic platform in addition to the comprehensive record review. Same flat $500 DBQ fee.
Veterans residing in any U.S. state EXCEPT the 6 listed below receive a comprehensive record-review-only IMO at the same flat $500 DBQ fee. The deliverable structure is identical to Tier 1 — only the clinical interview is omitted.
VetNexusMD does not currently provide IMO services to veterans residing in:
This is due to state-specific medical licensure considerations in these jurisdictions, where extensive review has indicated that even purely record-based independent medical opinions could be classified as the practice of medicine without an in-state license. To protect both veterans and our practice, VetNexusMD declines new intake from these states until appropriate state-level licensure is obtained.
State medical-practice statutes vary substantially. In most U.S. states, a board-certified physician licensed in any state can produce an Independent Medical Opinion based purely on review of submitted records — this is the longstanding “forensic medical opinion” / “record-review IMO” framework that supports the entire VA disability claims process. Several states, however, define the “practice of medicine” broadly enough that even purely record-based opinions for an out-of-state patient could trigger licensure requirements.
VetNexusMD’s policy is conservative: where the analysis indicates meaningful risk that record-review IMOs could be classified as practice-of-medicine without in-state licensure, we decline new intake until that licensure is obtained. The 6 states above are the result of that conservative analysis.
We genuinely wish we could help. While we cannot directly provide an IMO for your VA claim from your current state of residence, we recommend:
Current state of residence is verified at intake via the CharmHealth patient portal. If your residence is in Tier 3 (one of the 6 excluded states), intake will be politely declined with the recommendations above. If you are uncertain whether your residence qualifies (e.g., recent move, dual residency), please reach out to (617) 506-3411 before submitting CharmHealth intake.
This service area policy was established April 30, 2026, following extensive review of state-by-state medical-practice statutes. As state regulations evolve or VetNexusMD obtains additional state licensure, this list may be updated.
